Do's and Dont's while buying a Health Insurance Policy

A health insurance policy is the most important thing that protects your finances during medical emergencies. There are many insurance companies offering different types of health insurance policies. These policies are available for almost all age groups in the society. Buying a health insurance policy becomes a difficult task for a person as there are different types of policies with different types of terms and conditions, exclusions, sub limits, etc. one should be careful before buying a health insurance policy.

There are certain do’s and don’ts that one should keep in mind before buying a health insurance policy.



DO’s

·        First, understand your need for a health insurance policy. One should ensure to buy a policy with substantial coverage (Sum Assured) if you wish to buy the policy for your family.

·        Go for a plan that offers comprehensive coverage such as hospitalization, pre & post hospitalization, ambulance services, wider coverage and no sub limits, restrictions or caps on expenses.

·        Check for the network hospital list of the company from which you are buying health insurance.

·        Check for Pre-Existing condition clause, You should disclose all details regarding pre-existing health conditions such as any illness, medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, etc. or any surgeries done in the past.

·        Check for waiting periods in the policy.

·        Check for Co-Payments, if any.

·        Fill the Proposal form with complete details and correct information.

 

DON’TS

·        Do not buy any health insurance policy without understanding it completely.

·        Do not hide any material facts regarding your health condition or pre-existing disease from the insurer at the time of buying a health insurance policy.

·        Do not give any wrong/ false information to your insurer while buying a health insurance policy.

·        Do not let your policy get lapsed.

·        Do not forget to research about the insurance company from which you want to buy a health insurance policy.

·        Do not forget to check all the terms and conditions regarding exclusions, waiting periods, etc.

·        Do not hesitate to clarify your doubts regarding your policy from the health insurance company you wish to buy.
